Devon had a great 2022 filled with accomplishments. We worked with and for our stakeholders to live out our balanced strategy of being a sustainable company that cares for people, protects the planet and delivers profits. Watch this short recap video and scroll down to learn more.

Building communities full of energy

Vibrant communities brimming with life and energy are important so our business, employees and partners can thrive. We had a lot fun and made big impacts along the way in areas we work in throughout the U.S.

Devon’s annual Give for Good campaign was a huge success this year raising approximately $1.7 million through employee donations and company matching. That money will support thousands of people in need through organizations like the United Way and local food banks.

Sometimes you just want to put on your boots and hat and go to one of the country’s best rodeos. Frontier Days in Cheyenne, Wyoming doesn’t just draw locals, visitors from all over the world come to town for the experience, and as a proud sponsor, Devon helps support the town that brings so much joy and energy to visitors.

There’s nothing like chasing a bird on the run for fun, and that’s what they’ve been doing for 50 years in Cuero, Texas at the town’s annual Turkeyfest. Devon is a proud sponsor of the event as well as the Fastest Turkey in the South, Ruby Begonia. Somehow Turkeyfest is more fun to attend than it is to imagine.

Empowering education to support a future full of energy

Devon, in partnership with the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation, opened 120 STEM centers in communities and schools across the country. The initiative to open STEM centers launched in 2019 and in a short time we’ve seen a high-level of adoption, new partnership opportunities come to life and millions of smiles from everyone who’s had the chance to visit one.

This year we opened 17 centers in Oklahoma, nine in New Mexico, two in North Dakota and one in Texas. We committed to opening a center in every Tulsa elementary school and extended the program to middle schools in Oklahoma City. We are excited about how much has been done, but even more excited to see what’s next.

In partnership with the University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State University and Engage Learning, Devon launched Sports Lab – a unique learning opportunity that takes the excitement of sports and highlights the science behind performance.

To encourage STEM learning and a love of the earth sciences in younger girls, Devon geologists and engineers developed the Devon Terra Trooper badge. Currently, Girl Scout troops in New Mexico and Oklahoma can achieve the special badge.

Environmental stewardship to provide more energy with less impact

Detecting methane and ultimately reducing GHG emissions are critical for Devon to achieve its environmental targets, so we’ve been testing and evaluating several promising technologies on a single site in western Oklahoma. What started with two or three technologies is now testing nearly 10. By testing the technologies on the same well pad, Devon is removing variables for a better head-to-head comparison while also determining the effectiveness of each one to detect and/or quantify emissions.

Along with industry peers, Devon joined OGMP, an initiative launched by UNEP and the Climate and Clean Air Coalition. OGMP 2.0 is a comprehensive, measurement-based reporting framework for the oil and gas industry that improves the accuracy and transparency of methane emissions reporting in the oil and gas sector.

Being a good steward of the environment starts with caring for the planet. In 2022 Devon celebrated our 15-year partnership with the Wyoming Conservation Corp. with our annual volunteer event.

Investing in innovation to discover a world full of energy

Innovation is what started the oil and gas industry and is what has helped it evolve and improved over decades. Devon sees innovation is just as important (maybe more important) today than in the past, so we’re looking at how to best find, support and develop the next breakthrough to keep us moving forward. In 2022 Devon partnered with Tulsa Innovation Labs, EIC, George Kaiser Family Foundation, ONEOK, and Williams and launched EIC Rose Rock – an initiative creating opportunities for energy tech startups.

Education and mentorship also foster innovation and creative thinking, so Devon and Devon employees take a very active role in SPE (Society of Petroleum Engineers). In 2022 Devon hosted the organizations North American Symposium and enjoyed a packed house.

Every good hacker started somewhere, and at Devon we prefer to bring genius in house. This year we hosted a Hackathon for technology wizards inside and outside of Devon with the purpose of learning and inspiring each other.

Enhancing our portfolio full of energy

In 2022 Devon entered into a financial agreement with Delfin Midstream for its first floating LNG vessel. The agreement provides a framework for finalizing a definitive long-term tolling agreement representing 1.0 million tons per annum (MTPA) of liquefaction capacity in Delfin’s first Floating LNG vessel, with the ability to add an additional 1.0 MTPA in Delfin’s first or a future Floating LNG vessel.

Devon also expanded its operations footprint in 2022 with two bolt-on acquisitions. Both were immediately accretive and complementary to the company’s existing operations in the Williston basin (RimRock Oil and Gas) and Eagle Ford (Validus Energy).
