Pipeline Safety
Who We Are
Devon Energy Corporation is a leading independent oil and natural gas company based in Oklahoma City. We focus our operations onshore in the United States, with a strong commitment to safety, environmental stewardship, and community partnership. Our gathering pipeline network is a vital part of energy delivery in several key regions.
Pipeline Locations
Devon Energy operates pipelines in the following counties:
- North Dakota: McKenzie and Williams counties
- New Mexico: Eddy and Lea counties
- Texas: De Witt, Loving, and Reeves counties
Our pipelines are located underground for safety and reliability, and their routes are marked with visible signs along the right-of-way. These markers display important information such as the pipeline operator (Devon Energy), the type of product transported, and an emergency contact number.
How to Find Pipeline Locations:
- Look for pipeline markers along roads, fields, and property boundaries. These markers indicate the approximate (not exact) location of the pipeline.
- Markers do not show the depth of the pipeline, which can vary.
- For a detailed map of pipelines in your area, visit the National Pipeline Mapping System (NPMS) where you can search by ZIP code, county, or state.
If you have questions about pipeline locations on your property or in your community, please contact Devon Energy at 1-800-361-3377.
Your Safety is Our Priority
Call Before You Dig – Protecting You and Your Community
Did you know that even simple activities like planting a tree or installing a fence could put you at risk of hitting a buried pipeline or utility line? That’s why it’s the law to contact your state’s One-Call Center before you dig. Just dial 811 or visit 811beforeyoudig.com for more state-specific information—it’s free, easy, and helps keep everyone safe. Most states require you to call at least 48 hours before you start digging, so utility operators can mark the locations of pipelines and other underground utilities.
How to Recognize a Pipeline Leak
Your awareness can help keep your family and neighbors safe. Here’s what to look for:
- Sight: Watch for a low-lying white cloud, fog, or mist near the ground, pools of liquid, dead or discolored plants, bubbling water, frozen ground, or even fire or explosions near a pipeline.
- Sound: Listen for unusual hissing or roaring noises coming from the ground or a facility.
- Smell: Be alert for any strange or unusual odors in the area.
What To Do If You Suspect a Leak
- Turn off any equipment and avoid anything that could cause a spark.
- Leave the area immediately on foot and encourage others to do the same. Try to stay upwind.
- From a safe distance, call Devon Energy at 1-800-361-3377 and dial 911.
- Provide your name, phone number, a brief description of the situation, and your location.
What NOT To Do
- Don’t use matches, lighters, or anything that could create a spark.
- Don’t touch or come into contact with escaping liquids or vapors.
- Don’t drive into a vapor cloud or attempt to operate pipeline valves.
- Don’t try to put out a fire yourself—leave it to the professionals.
What Do Our Pipelines Carry?
Devon Energy pipelines transport a variety of products, including:
- Condensate
- Crude Oil

- Produced Water
Each product is handled with strict safety protocols and is identified by federal guidebook numbers for emergency responders.
