Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer

Clay Gaspar, 52, is the executive vice president and chief operating officer at Devon Energy, a role he assumed in January 2021 following the company’s merger with WPX Energy. In this capacity, he oversees Devon’s geosciences, reservoir management, production, drilling, completions, facilities, field operations, environmental, health and safety, and ESG initiatives. Previously, Clay served as president and chief operating officer of WPX Energy, where he also sat on the board of directors. His earlier career includes technical and leadership positions with Newfield Exploration, Anadarko Petroleum, and Mewbourne Oil. Clay is the chairman of the Upstream Committee of the American Petroleum Institute and serves on the boards of the Southwest Region of the American Heart Association, the Oklahoma Chapter of The Nature Conservancy, the Permian Strategic Partnership, and the Texas A&M Engineering Advisory Council. Additionally, he previously served on the Economic Advisory Council of the Kansas City Federal Reserve. He earned a bachelor’s degree in petroleum engineering from Texas A&M University and a master’s degree in petroleum and geosciences engineering from the University of Texas.
