Senior Vice President and General Counsel

Adam Vela was appointed senior vice president and general counsel in May 2026 following Devon’s merger with Coterra Energy. Vela is responsible for Devon’s legal, public and government affairs and records functions. He most recently served as senior vice president and general counsel for Coterra Energy. Vela began his career in private practice in 1999 and joined Cimarex in 2005, serving in various leadership capacities at Cimarex and Coterra Energy, including vice president and general counsel, vice president and assistant general counsel and chief litigation counsel. He is a member of the Texas, Colorado, American and Houston Hispanic Bar Associations. Vela holds a bachelor’s degree from Wabash College and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law.
