Committed to Safety
Nothing is as important to Devon as its people. We work hard to make sure that everyone who comes to work goes home safely at the end of each day.
But the emphasis we place on safety goes beyond maintaining and developing our properties and leases. Many of Devon Canada's employees, contractors and neighbours regularly commute along Alberta's highways 63 and 881. That's why Devon Canada is a Gold Level Sponsor for the Coalition for a Safer 63 and 881, committing more than $200,000 towards this initiative since 2011. Support of the Coalition for a Safer 63 and 881 naturally fits with Devon's core values to do the right thing, be a valued and active member in our communities and get everyone home safely every day.
Since 2010, the Coalition for a Safer 63 and 881 has brought many members of the Alberta oil sands industry, local businesses and government together to launch initiatives that encourage change in driver behavior and decrease highway collisions, injuries and fatalities.
Here are some of the important campaigns the Coalition has released recently:
Stay safe this summer, May 2014, inserts real driving scenarios into well-known song lyrics to demonstrate how quickly accidents can happen when driving.
The Pledge, November 2013. Pledge to your loved ones that you will be a safe driver all the time.
How many yawns over the limit are you? May 2013.Driving while tired is just as dangerous as driving after one too many drinks.
If you don't have a plan, winter has one for you, January 2013. It's important to plan ahead, especially for winter driving.
Tunnel Vision, September 2011. People, not just road conditions are responsible for accidents. Take your time, plan ahead and take breaks.
