Jackfish 3 Application Available

Devon's Jackfish Projects are located approximately 15 km (10 miles) southeast of Conklin, Alberta. Each project uses Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD) to extract the bitumen.

Devon continues to evaluate the development potential of our oil sands leases in the Athabasca region of Alberta, and has identified sufficient oil sands to support an additional project.

Devon submitted a regulatory application for the Jackfish 3 (J3) Project on Aug. 13, 2010, to the Energy Resources Conservation Board (ERCB) and Alberta Environment. The project was sanctioned by the Devon Energy Board of Directors on Sept. 16, 2010.

Devon is committed to environmentally sustainable development and the involvement of the community from the earliest stages of project planning. The consultation process for J3 builds on our ongoing cooperative approach implemented for Jackfish and J2. Devon is working with local stakeholders to develop a strong foundation and operating principles for the J3 Project that balances environmental, social and economic considerations.

Construction of J3, pending regulatory approvals, is scheduled to begin near year-end 2011 with plant start-up targeted for 2015.
