Since 1990, we have been reducing our carbon emissions to promote cleaner air and improve our efficiency as an energy producer. We have focused much of our efforts on reducing the volume of methane we emit from our production operations. While this helps us to be a good neighbor, it also is good business. The more natural gas we can keep in the pipeline, the more we can bring to market.
Through our voluntary partnership with government regulators in the U.S. and Canada, we have consistently reduced emissions each year. The Environmental Protection Agency has repeatedly recognized Devon for the company’s accomplishments through its Natural Gas STAR Program, a voluntary partnership between industry and government. The EPA presented its Continuing Excellence Award to Devon in 2008 and 2010 after previously honoring the company as its Rookie of the Year in 2004 and its Partner of the Year in 2005.
Devon’s greenhouse gas emissions reduction program is part of an overall effort to operate in an environmentally responsible manner. Our goal is to continue finding efficiencies and technological advancements that will enable us to reduce our emissions even further.
Green completions now the standard in Barnett Shale
Using the green completions process, Devon has reduced methane emissions by more than 25 billion cubic feet in the Barnett Shale. A green completion is an environmentally friendly method of keeping the air clean in the final stages of a natural gas well’s completion.

Tiny valve offers huge environmental impact
A tiny example of ingenuity is proving to be doubly beneficial at some of Devon's older wells. It reduces greenhouse emissions while preserving more natural gas for eventual sale.

Devon's voluntary partnership with EPA benefits all
Devon is a partner in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Natural Gas STAR Program, a voluntary effort between the federal agency and industry to reduce methane emissions. By using cost effective technologies and practices, partners in the program have been successful in reducing methane emissions by about 1 trillion cubic feet since 1993.
