Devon employees continually demonstrate their support of their communities through successful United Way campaigns each year.
It takes numerous employee volunteers working behind the scenes to ensure a successful campaign in their communities. Whether by volunteering their time or donating their own money, employees willingly give to the cause.
By contributing to United Way, employees know they are making a difference in the lives of many in their communities. Devon matches employee contributions dollar for dollar, doubling United Way’s efforts in areas across North America.
In 2008, employees in Oklahoma City, Houston, Calgary, Canada field offices and Bridgeport, Texas, broke Devon’s previous United Way fundraising record of $2.1 million (USD), bringing in approximately $3.97 million with the company match. New employee campaigns in areas such as Gillette, Wyo., and Devon contributions in McAlester, Okla., and several north Texas counties contributed to the total.
Employees across the company truly embraced the spirit of giving and ended up with the highest fundraising campaigns to date for their United Way organizations in their area.
Oklahoma City
Devon employees in Oklahoma City far surpassed their United Way campaign goal, contributing more than $684,725 to the cause. With Devon matching funds rounded up, the total contribution to the United Way of Central Oklahoma was $1.37 million.
Houston
Houston employees also exceeded their campaign goal, with more than $434,000 donated. With Devon matching funds rounded up, the total contribution to United Way of the Texas Gulf Coast was a record $868,000.
North Texas
The record-breaking fundraising continued in Bridgeport, where United Way contributions totaled $318,487 with the Devon match.
Calgary
Calgary employees were overjoyed by their $1.55 million campaign total in 2008 and spent more than 600 hours volunteering for United Way agencies through the Days of Caring volunteer events.
All seven field districts in Canada also held their own campaigns this year, contributing a record total of nearly $229,243.
