When members of a community see Devon employees serving on school boards, donating vital equipment to emergency responders or speaking to students about oilfield safety, they know we have a sincere interest in communities where we operate.
Working alongside our communities is fundamental to our success and is an integral part of our corporate culture. Our employees are the driving force behind Devon’s ambassador program, which is the key component of our overall community outreach initiative.
The ambassador program succeeds because Devon’s employees in the field are the most important representatives in the communities where we live and work. Devon ambassadors are active in community organizations, volunteer to answer questions about our operations and maintain open lines of communication with all of our stakeholders.
For Bill Skelton, being a Devon ambassador in Riverton, Wyo., requires owning a “good pair of boots.” As an ambassador, Skelton seeks opportunities to make positive impacts in his community. He volunteers to help local law enforcement with search-and-rescue operations, boating accidents and plane crashes. Among other things, he has helped comb wilderness areas for lost children.
Devon ambassadors also build relationships with landowners, legislators and regulators. They demonstrate our commitment to being a good neighbor and help us improve operational efficiency and productivity. They also work closely with community leaders to identify contribution opportunities for worthwhile causes and events.
Because we are determined to do business in a responsible way, we take a proactive, strategic approach to community outreach. Skelton is one of more than 140 field employees who represent Devon in the ambassador program.
