At Devon, making a difference in communities where we operate means more than simply writing checks to non-profit organizations. It means rolling up our sleeves and helping these organizations serve the community.
Volunteering has always been an important part of Devon’s corporate culture. We understand that while financial contributions are important, volunteering in the community can make a significant difference. That’s why Devon’s employees are encouraged to contribute their time and talents to organizations in the communities where they live and work.
Each year, Devon awards grants to various community organizations through its employee volunteer grant program. The program was established to recognize, encourage and support employees who volunteer in communities where we operate.
Through the program, employees who volunteer can secure company funding for organizations that also benefit from their volunteer efforts. Since 2005, Devon has contributed more than $110,000 to social service organizations through this program. In addition, employees are offered paid time off to volunteer.
While employee volunteers are active year round, they kick it into high gear each year during National Volunteer Week. In 2010, about 1,600 employees logged more than 7,200 volunteer hours over seven days throughout the United States and Canada. Now that’s making a difference.
Devon’s volunteers strive to make a difference in their communities. They also inspire others to give their time and resources to non-profit organizations. After all, a community is only as strong as its people. We believe helping these organizations through corporate giving and rolling up our sleeves make the communities where we operate a better place to live and work.
